Stephen Ministries

St. Benedict Church began Stephen Ministry on January 29, 2005 . Through Stephen Ministry a team of St. Benedict members, known as Stephen Ministers were equipped to provide quality Christian care to people facing a variety of personal crises. Some of these situations include loss of a loved one, divorce, terminal illness whether it is personal or family trying to cope, loneliness, unemployment, hospitalization, or the birth of a child.

On January 29, 2005 the commissioned five ministers were placed under the leadership of the pastor with Marianna Hicks and Shirley Williams as Stephen Minister leaders.

Before commissioning, these individuals received fifty (50) hours of training in Christian care giving skills, active listening, crises theory and ministering to people in many situations. A major emphasis of this training is confidentiality. Identity and relationships remain private .

Stephen Ministers meet monthly for continuing education and supervision as they strive to offer only the highest quality of Christian care giving.

Stephen Ministers remain a source of warmth and caring for the entire congregation. Individuals are cherished and their needs are taken seriously, all in the name of Jesus Christ.

As the Lord said in Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks the door will be opened”.
